Healthy Kids Dinner
Slowly Introducing Healthy Kids' Dinners
Dinner is often the only meal of the day that the family has time to share. To make sure that it is enjoyed by everyone, it is good to incorporate healthy kids' dinner recipes into your meal. It is important to let kids have some of their favorites for dinner, while slowly introducing new foods into the mix. An extra vegetable in the salad for instance, might not be noticed as readily as a whole new kind of salad.
Healthy Child's Dinner Leads to Healthy Adults
The importance of a healthy dinner cannot be overstated. Studies have shown that growing up eating healthy meals with the family leads to children who are more likely to eat healthy as adults, less likely to smoke, drink and use drugs, as well as kids that get better grades. The open atmosphere and conversation has a lot to do with this, but the healthy child's dinner is at the center of the future healthy adult.
Incorporating Kids' Dinner Ideas
One way to make sure that your children will eat what you make for dinner is to include your kids' dinner ideas in the mix. This doesn't mean that you need to listen to everything they say and have pizza every night, but letting them choose a vegetable, or giving them a choice between lasagna or chicken can make them feel much more in control of what they are eating.
Healthy Versions of A Child's Dinner Ideas
Some nights a child's dinner ideas may include pizza. This can be a lot of fun for the whole family if you decide to make the pizzas yourselves. You can buy the pizza dough already made, in whole wheat to make it extra healthy. You can even choose thin or regular crust. Thin crust allows you to get more full from the toppings than the crust. Making your own pizza allows you to decide how much sauce you use, and what kind, as well as using a lower fat cheese and probably less of it. Toppings can be any vegetable your child chooses, along with some form of lean meat. If each person makes their own pizza, there will be plenty of leftovers for lunch boxes.
Healthy Dinner Recipes For Kids
Dinner recipes for kids can include some twists on their favorites. Most kids love spaghetti and meatballs. This can be made with whole wheat spaghetti noodles. The meatballs can be made with lean ground beef, and include whole wheat breadcrumbs and high fiber bulgur in them. They can be baked rather than fried to also help cut the fat. Similarly, hamburgers can be made with pieces of vegetable right inside them, and made out of lean ground beef. They can be served on whole wheat buns, with lettuce and tomato. If the children don't eat the lettuce and tomato, they still get the benefit of the vegetables inside.
