Caribbean Vacation for Kids

How to find a kid-friendly Caribbean vacation package

The Caribbean has a reputation as being the perfect vacation for honeymooners, or as a romantic getaway. Travelers with families and small children have shied away from the Caribbean as a vacation destination, but the increase of all-inclusive packages has made it a great choice for families.

The Club Med Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic has great activities for parents and children alike. The Petit Club and the Mini Club are available for those under 18, with different rooms available for different age ranges. Teenagers can try the trapeze, rollerblading, or The Ramp with a lounge and a skateboarding ramp. While the kids play, adults can try shopping, the spa facilities or some of the many bars and restaurants.

The Franklyn D. Resort offers an excellent all-inclusive vacation deal for families, complete with a vacation nanny for each family to use during their stay. The nanny is available to take the kids for daily activities, play with them during the day or just watch them in the swimming pool. For families on the go, this can be a huge asset during a vacation, and is a nice way for stay at home to get a little relaxation during their vacation in the Caribbean.

FDR is one of the most popular vacation destinations for families in Jamaica, and not solely because of the vacation nanny. The hotel has 76 large suite-style rooms available with one, two, or three bedrooms to fit your family's needs. FDR also has four on-site restaurants with a special Kids Buffet, and the adult-oriented Main Bar Piano Lounge. For the active traveler, they offer sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, glass bottom boat trips, tennis, a 100-foot waterslide, three swimming pools and scuba diving. There are dozens of activities to suit every member of the family.

For a more budget-friendly alternative in the Caribbean, try the Starfish Trelawny Beach and Fun Resort in Jamaica. The resort offers miniature golf, rock climbing, a trapeze and many other activities for children up to 12 years of age. The hotel has several pools, including a child-themed pool with a waterslide and castle theme. Teenagers can play in the surf, or take advantage of any of the hundreds of opportunities in the area. The resort offers nanny services for an additional charge, and a Kids Center is open every day until 8 p.m.
